SAGEN

SAGEN started from a gap that bothered me: LLM agents can generate fluent responses but carry no persistent model of where they are, what they have done, or what they are trying to accomplish. Every turn is effectively the first turn. The research explores what it would take to give an agent something closer to genuine situational awareness. https://www.jakelawrence.xyz/research/sagen

Every turn an LLM agent takes is effectively the first turn. No memory of where it is, what it has done, or what it is actually trying to accomplish. SAGEN is my research into closing that gap.

LLM agents can produce fluent, confident responses while having no persistent model of where they are, what they have done, or what they are trying to accomplish. Every turn is effectively the first turn. That gap is what SAGEN is built around. https://www.jakelawrence.xyz/research/sagen

Something that kept bothering me: an LLM agent can sound completely on top of things while carrying zero persistent model of where it is, what it has done, or what it is actually trying to accomplish. Each turn, it starts fresh and infers from context. That is not situational awareness, it is a very good impression of it. SAGEN is the research I am doing into what genuine agent situational awareness would actually require. https://www.jakelawrence.xyz/research/sagen

Fluent responses, zero persistent model of where it is or what it is trying to accomplish. Every LLM agent turn is effectively the first turn. That is the gap SAGEN starts from.
